High Sheriff

High Sheriff's Grassroots Fund

Small voluntary and community groups tackling crime in Berkshire are to benefit from a cash injection, following the introduction of a new Crime Prevention Fund for the Royal County. Established in response to knowledge gained from a recent countywide needs survey, which documents the issues and needs facing Berkshire communities, this fund will boost groups dealing with crime and prevention of crime in times unprecedented for the voluntary sector in Berkshire times when there is a threat of many funding streams significantly reducing or being removed.

“Crime is a key theme within the findings of the Needs Survey; the High Sheriff’s Grassroots Fund will encourage young people to get involved with crime reduction activities and create safer communities. It will also be used to recognise the work local people do to offer young people alternatives to crime.”

The fund, with thanks to several donors including Lady Stevenson and the government match funding, is expected to stand at £100 k. This sum will be invested and each year the income from the investment will be spent on crime reduction activities.
