Berkshire County Blind Society

08.01.08

The Berkshire County Blind Society has been awarded a Sport Relief Grant of £2,500, which has gone towards the cost of transporting their visually impaired members to and from four bowling clubs in Berkshire. As many visually impaired people do not have easy access to private or public transport, the Sport Relief grant has contributed significantly towards the Berkshire County Blind Society's efforts to extend their members' access to sport.

This service has provided members with access to a physical activity within a safe and supportive environment. It promotes exercise, spatial awareness and dexterity. It also helps to motivate participants and improve their physical and emotional wellbeing. At the same time they can enhance their interactive skills whilst having fun!

Since 1910, the Berkshire County Blind Society has worked with both the visually impaired and other people who may have an additional disability or illness. It offers a programme of activities to help its members overcome isolation and enhance their social networking skills.
