Trustees of existing charitable trusts sometimes find it difficult to identify beneficiaries for the funds, new trustees or to cope with the continuing responsibilities.
In these circumstances Trustees can consider transferring their fund or part of it to the Berkshire Community Foundation, providing their trust deed has a clause permitting them to transfer the capital.
The Community Foundation can assist with the arrangements. Moreover it is able to respect the wishes of the original donor and the trustees in holding the capital in a Named Fund and focusing the income on the issues the original trust was set up to address.

The Foundation offers an attractive alternative to the expense and administrative burden of setting up and managing an independent charitable trust.
Benefits to you
Other Advantages for Donors
Permanence Setting up a fund allows each generation to have as much or as little say in the running of your fund
Experience Our expert grant makers and grants committees will make sure your gift will get to where it is needed most
Local Giving You and your family will feel the benefits as grants are awarded to Berkshire based groups and visits to projects can be arranged
Strength As your fund will be held with others, it gains the advantages of higher returns thereby generating more income to distribute
Flexibility The remit of your fund can be changed (in writing) at any time meaning you can support a range of causes which are important to you. Additionally, provision can be made for the management of a fund after a donor's death
Convenience Your fund can be established over a number of years and we will make your giving as tax effective as possible. We can reclaim tax paid and if you are a higher rate tax payer you will benefit from an additional 18% higher rate tax relief. Gift Aid will also make an individual's donation worth 28% more at no extra cost
Involvement We encourage donors to become actively involved with the Foundation by joining grants or fundraising committee or becoming a Trustee
