Helping disadvantaged children across Berkshire to live more fulfilling lives.
We raise money for disadvantaged children living in Berkshire to help them live more rewarding lives. In particular, we support children with physical or learning difficulties and children with psychological and behavioural disorders. We also aim to help those living in areas of general deprivation and those in care. By providing grants of up to £1,000 to individuals and up to £2,000 to groups who work with children, we hope to reach as many children as possible and make a real difference to their lives.
Whilst many people believe Berkshire is an affluent area, there are a number of hidden needs in each unitary authority relating to children and young people. We aim to address these needs when we provide grants. Some of the issues include: underachievement, isolation and a lack of social and recreational opportunities, children living in pockets of deprivation and those involved with crime or drug abuse. There are a significant number of disaffected young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) that need our support and with a population that continues to grow, there is an increasing need for community care for young people including those with disabilities and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
For over twenty years we have supported countless disadvantaged children across Berkshire. Our grants for individuals have helped young people improve their lives with wheelchairs, computers, learning aids and holidays. Our grants for groups have supported young people with training, equipment, funding of community projects as well as toys and books. Since April 2008 we have awarded grants totalling £83,911 to 54 groups across Berkshire. In addition, we have awarded 56 grants to individual children totalling £23,364. We hope to continue our work and reach even more disadvantaged children.
