A “Named Fund” can be set up by any company, organisation or individual wishing to ensure long term, sustainable funding for grants.
Their donations (or build up of donations over the years) mean that their Fund has sufficient capital to use only the interest (plus sometimes additional fundraising by employees) for grant making. The donor sets up the Fund and defines the type of grant to be made and criteria, such as geographic area or type of beneficiary. Examples are shown below.

As part of our strategy for Local Giving for Local Need we are setting up Community Funds within the Foundation for each of the six unitary areas.
We welcome contributions from individuals, organisations or companies interested in supporting their local area long term.
The Peter King Fund was set up in 2006/7 with £64,000 for local children and young people and income will be used mainly to support Berkshire Give A Child a Chance grants

Reading Community Fund.
This fund is being built. Prudential and Gillette are the main donors so far with commitments of £60,000 each.
Slough Community Fund.
This fund is now up to £140,000 has been built by Kidde Graviner, Black and Decker and Equant.
Berkshire Give A Child A Chance (GACAC)
Fund is aimed at providing a long term source of funding for children in the county through the provision of grants to groups supporting children as well as individual children and families. It underpins our annual fundraising, which in 2006/7 enabled the Foundation to make grants totaling £73,000. The Give a Child Chance Fund currently stands at £42,000
Deloitte & Touche are expanding their Fund (currently £60,000) to £75,000 with an additional donation of £5,000 per year. In 2006 the Reading staff, through their fundraising committee, have already raised an extra £5,000 to make grants to chosen projects.
The Blagrave Fund for the Elderly was set up after a consultation highlighted the issues of isolation, disability and low income as being contributory to long term illness and dementia in older people. The Fund to provide help to elderly people in the County, currently stands at £181,000. The Blagrave Trust decided to commit a further £10,000 per year for 5 years on the proviso that the Community Foundation used this as a challenge to raise an equivalent sum for older people.
Boehringer Ingelheim has similarly built up a £30,000 fund for the elderly.
Peter Brett Associates are building a fund of £50,000
Donnington Hospital Trust are building a Fund for the Elderly of £50,000 over ten years.
The Bayer Gift. Bayer plc built a £40,000 fund in the Foundation, a proportion of which is used as the Bayer Gift for grants restricted to the Newbury area.
The Sara Lee Hardship Fund (currently £50,000) was set up for the relief of poverty amongst former Sara Lee employees and residents of the county.
Lennox & Wyfold Fund for the Elderly. In 2006 this trust set up a fund of £20,000 for this purpose and added a further £10,000 in 2007.
Panasonic and PricewaterhouseCoopers Fund for Voluntary Sector Training stands at £150,000 and has funded a large number of training projects, including a Berkshire wide training co-ordination project run by the Community Council for Berkshire.
Ernst & Young Fund stands at £72,500 and is used for general grant making.
Foster Wheeler Fund. The Fund stands at £98,000 for general grant making.
